I was using the freeware version 3.0.0.129 without any issue, until the 1 year expiration. I was prompted to download the latest (2016) version 3.1.0.315.

Upon installation, I immediately found out, while the new version inherited the saved connections, when I connected to the server, it only lists the table names, but cannot retrieve the column definition that normally shows in the bottom of Object Explorer. Instead, I got error message

"Attempt to insert NULL value into column 21 in work table (table id 4288282623); column does not allow NULLS.  UPDATE fails."

I found if I close Toad for SAP and restart, the same error message will show up except with a different table id. I tried to use object_name() to get the work table name, only to get Sybase Database Error "Arithmetic overflow during implicit conversion of BIGINT value '4288282623' to a INT field ."

I suspect it's some script for creating the work table. I even copied the script from Tools --> Options --> SQL Dictionary --> Db.CommonSql --> DescribeTableColumns from the old version 3.0.0.129. I found it is the same as the new version. I could run the script in 3.0 before, but when I created an editor and pasted the script and run, the very same error message "Attempt to insert NULL value into column 21 in work table (table id 4288282623); column does not allow NULLS.  UPDATE fails." shows up.

The target SAP is ASE 16. On another connection to a ASE 15.7 server which the old 3.0 version had no issue on, it will connect to the server but no table will be listed. If I right click at the table area and select Refresh from the drop down, I will get an error "Invalid column name 'sysstat4'".

Is there any way to let me keep using the old but working version 3.0.0.129, instead of the 3.1.0.315? Or is there any way (such as updating the script) so the work table's column 21 can allow NULL value? In the current state it is not usable.

Thanks!

There is a problem with Toad for SAP which causes issues during production releases which had DDL changes.

How to reproduce:

1, Open   Toad -> and connect to a Sybase IQ server via Connection manager

2. Go to View- > Object Explorer.

Now Check for table locks by using sp_iqlocks. You will see shared locks on ALL  tables on the server, across all schemas.

Thus, if someone has a Toad session open during the release,  any DDL on a tables such as alters, will fail with a table is in use error.

I don't understand why Toad needs to lock all tables .

We have many Toad sessions connected, and this is not feasible for us to control everyone and tell them not to use Toad during the release.

Has anyone come across this issue and do you have solution ?

I am looking at deploying Toad to a large group of Data Analysts and Developers. Some should have access to production data and some should not. I am wondering if there is anyway to lock the ability to add or remove connections in Connection Manager. I really like the ability to import groups of connections, but I don't want many of the users to be able to change this for security reasons.

I need the functionality that was built in for this post (http://www.toadworld.com/products/toad-for-sap-solutions/f/24/t/21931?pi11637=2). -Thanks

Hi All,

Could anyone please share Standard Licensing rules for "TOAD for Data Analysts"?

I believe that Dell Software has standardised licensing agreements so are the Licensing Rules for "TOAD for Data Analysts" basically the same across the board for the following also:

  • Toad for Oracle
  • Toad for SQL Server
  • Toad for Data Analysts
  • Toad Data Modeler
  • Toad for MySQL

Hi,

I have Toad for SAP Sybase trial version.  It's running inside an Azure virtual machine Windows Server 2012 R2.  The Azure virtual machine is attached to a virtual network which also has a site to site connection to a physical server.  The site to site connection works and the virtual machine is connected to the Azure network.

When I input the internal, non-public, IP address of the SQL Anywhere database I am unable to connect.  Does Toad support some type of VPN tunneling or is there a special configuration that is needed to pass the local network IP address and then the internal database IP address?  I've setup SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise on the virtual machine and intend to store data from the on premises database therein.  However, my efforts to connect via VPN have been unsuccessful.  How is this accomplished using Toad for SAP SQL Anywhere?

Thanks for your help and guidance.

We have several SQL anywhere databases on a local area network addressable by TCP-IP that are frequently re-installed with different database names.  For years now, I connect to these databases with Sybase Central connection profiles by TCP-IP, server name unspecified, and database blank.  I say 'unspecified' because the connection string contains "ENG=unspecified" in it. I cannot get Toad to connect with default database or blank database.  I get database server not found.  In Sybase Central, I just leave the database name blank. In Sybase Central, when I get a connection error, I can view the connection string. Is there a way to get the Toad connection to work without a database name?
