Did you know we also give away a lot of software, with no intention of selling it?
One of the most popular database platforms out there is MySQL. I’m going to guess that’s because it is free (for now). Apparently it is downloaded more than 70,000 times a day.
I don’t use MySQL Jeff.
If you are a blogger, I bet you do!
I am a user of MySQL. My blog is powered by WordPress. The post, comments, images, etc are all stored in a MySQL database.
I can manage this database via the web console provided by web service provider — bluehost. I should probably thank @BrentO AGAIN for recommending them to me when I was looking to start my blogging career…so thanks Brent!
If you don’t like a web interface, or want a nice IDE to type in…
Manage Your WordPress MySQL database via ToadI don’t even need to write anything here. Someone has already created a YouTube video for that, thanks StappsPlace!
Diagnose and Monitor Performance with SpotlightSpotlight has been one of the leading database performance tools for more than a decade. It’s creator is a database performance expert in the Oracle, MySQL, and noSQL worlds — Guy Harrison. Guy modeled Spotlight after the engineering console in television’s best show EVER, ST:TNG.
Our customers pay to use this software in their Oracle, DB2, Sybase, and SQL Server environments.
MySQL users get to use it for FREE. You can download it here.
You can even use it to monitor the server hosting your database, whether that be Windows, Linux, or Unix.
You can drill down into any category of performance or activity by simply right-clicking on one of the controls.
I can also setup email alerts. Instead of nervously checking my website to make sure everything is OK, I can let Spotlight email me if it notices any problems!
