Hi guys!

We appreciate your feedback. However, in order to resolve any issues that you may encounter, we would like you to provide us with as much information as possible, such as:

  • Do you use Toad for Apache Hadoop on Windows or on Mac OS?
  • Do you use Cloudera QuickStart VM? If so, what version?
  • Do you use Cloudera Distribution Hadoop (CDH) or other Hadoop Distribution solutions? If so, which version?
    • In case of Cloudera solutions, do you use Cloudera Manager?
    • In case of Hortonworks, do you use Ambari?
  • Can you describe your Hadoop ecosystem?
    • Do you use virtualization?
    • How many nodes are there in your Hadoop cluster approximately?
    • Do you use FQDN (fully qualified domain names) to identify your nodes, or IP addresses?

  • What error/issue have you encountered? Can you send us the specific error message or screenshot it?
  • Do you remember what you did before you encountered the error/issue? Does it happen everytime?

Please, try to answer these questions as best as you can when you create a new troubleshooting post. The more details you provide us, the faster we can resolve the issue.

Additionally, you can send us logs located in:

Win:

Hi,

I'm trying to setup TOAD for Hadoop.  We use Ambari and Hortonworks HDP 2.4.  I enter the credentials and connection information information and it  checks out everything until it gets to "Getting cluster configuration" and the status is "detecting...".  It won't advance past that step.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

We use Toad for Hadoop very often and really like it.

However, there is one annoying problem.

From time to tome Toad does not display the query results, only an empty table. In the status bar there is label "Row 1 of 0 fetched rows (memory full)".
Sometimes it helps to restart Toads. Sometimes nothing works.

How to cope with this problem?

Hi All,

New to the board and hoping you can all help :)

Reading through past messages on the board it seems like Knox Server integration was not in place back in February 2016.

Based upon experiences currently I presume it still doesn't exist.

Is there an expectation of when this may be introduced and/or a link to the backlog so I can upvote this feature?

Hi there,

Running against an HDP 2.5 cluster (VMs, but not the HDP sandbox).

When I go to the "Columns" tab of the "Object Detail" pane, I get this error message:

It's not a big deal because queries still work and I can see the list of columns under the table in the browser to the left, but it's worth figuring out what the problem is.

Not sure if this matters, but it's an ORC table.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Hi,
My question is about how to configure HDFS in case my computer is not able to connect directly to the namenode server. To be more precise, at the moment I have to use a jump server to connect with the Hadoop Stack. I therefore use putty together with port forwarding to get access to different Hadoop tools with my local (desktop) tools (connection to the jumps server with different port forwarding's to nodes in the cluster). That works pretty fine for Impala but now I struggle with the HDFS connection.  My putty connection forwards the local port 18020 to namenode.hostname:8020. Inside Toad I then use host "localhost" and port 18020 to configure HDFS. But Toad says "HDFS configuration:
A problem has occured. NameNode host is not specified as FQDN." But using FQDN seems to be difficult, or not?

Is there any trick to get the connection working?

Thanks and best regards,

Roberto

Hi gents,

First of all let me notice that I can successfully connect to Impala/Hive using DB Visualizer or to Hive using Oracle SQL Developer (it allows only Hive connections)

so it's not a problem with network, passwords, cluster itself, java, permissions etc.

When I'm trying to set up Ecosystem - I'm able to connect to CDH 5.5 and fetch configuration.

But after that I cannot connect with enabled Kerberos.

More surprisingly I can activate Ecosystem without enabling Kerberos Security but I cannot connect to Impala/Hive by specifying jdbc string.

I'm using jdbc string in the same form as I use for DB Visualizer

jdbc:impala://<host_XXX>:21050;AuthMech=1;KrbRealm=<DOMAIN>;KrbServiceName=impala;KrbHostFQDN=<host_XXX>.<DOMAIN>;

jdbc:hive2://<host_YYY>:10000;AuthMech=1;KrbRealm=<DOMAIN>;KrbServiceName=hive;KrbHostFQDN=<host_YYY>.<DOMAIN>;

Please note that KrbHostFQDN is different for Impala and Hive.

Anyway, I cannot check credentials with any of them on "Ecosystem Configuration" Screen.

Let me know how to configure credentials for Kerberos.

Thanks

Hi All,

Newbie here.

Using TOAD for Hadoop for the first time, installed and using it on a Windows O/S. Set up (configured) to access Hadoop cluster and all the "Check State(s)" report they have "Service is available"

When I run a very simple query for example << SELECT * FROM db_name.table_name WHERE boolean_col_name = 1 ; >>

The above query returned 2 rows showing false / true values........................... GOOD SO FAR.

I ran a couple other queries to analyze data, then re-ran this same query again.....

Suddently, it was very slow to run the query (38s or more), and when it executed, no rows were returned....................................WHY?

The column headers show in the 'Result' window (so the query ran), and in the 'Statements' window it shows that it executed but without data being returned.

I did see a popup in the bottom corner appear as I closed TOAD (thinking maybe if I close/re-open)....something related to "Java Heap Space"..................is there some sort of configuration to O/S that needs to be made?

Diane

Previously I used TOAD 1.5.1 and connecting via jdbc. Everything worked.
Today I updated to TOAD version 1.5.3. Stopped working connecting via jdbc: The server failed to respond with a valid HTTP response.

Looked at the log:
Caused by: org.apache.thrift.transport.TTransportException: Could not create http connection to jdbc:hive2://servername.net:10000/;transportMode=http;httpPath=param1;param2=true. org.apache.http.client.ClientProtocolException

The connection string should be: jdbc:hive2://servername.net:10000/param1;param2=true

Typed it in the tab "JDBC connection string" - all working again. Seem to version 1.5.3, there is a bug with the formation of the http request.

Ask to check.

I recently installed an update to OS X to get to 10.11.6.  When the machine restarted, it loaded Toad For Hadoop 1.5.1 which had been running.

I now get a message whose heading is "A problem has occurred and the application workspace could not be loaded" with a lengthy description that I'll attach a screenshot of.

I reconfigured a new Ecosystem (CDH 5.4 using discovery process), everything seemed to be working as usual, then quit the application; on restart got the same message, although the Ecosystem was listed.

Sometimes this is a result of a permissions change during OS X upgrades.

I looked under ~/Library and found "Saved Application State" -- the entry for com.dell.ToadForApacheHadoop.savedState, which was a symbolic link to /Users/tharrison/Library/Containers/com.dell.ToadForApacheHadoop. -- as far as I could tell, permissions seemed correct.

Is there further diagnosis I can do to help isolate this issue?

Thanks very much for a fantastic product.  I had managed to convince our Hue haters to use dbVisualizer, but that was painful.  Toad is brilliant, and now that you have an OS X version, we can use it!  Thanks!!!
