I have been using the SQL Server Performance Dashboard for a long time. The Performance Dashboard is in my opinion an excellent tool to troubleshoot, specially when you don’t have a set of your own scripts. One of the things that the Performance Dashboard has is a list of the missing indexes on the SQL Server instance. Having a list of the missing indexes is very useful, in this post I don’t want to talk about the uses of the report, but about a very handy script I fund for checking for missing indexes. As I mentioned before the Performance Dashboard only shows indexes on the SQL Server instance, but there are times when you just want to know which are the missing indexes on a specific database. For those case the script I found is perfect. This script was written by Jason Brimhall a guy I’m very surprised has not become an MVP yet. You can find the script here. Try the script and let me know what do you think of the script.
