Even though the annual PASS Summit 2013 is only a week away, if you’re like most of us, you haven’t had time to give it a second thought since registering. However, with 5,000 attendees and over 190 technical sessions, it warrants some planning before stepping through the doors and instantly being overwhelmed. The good news is that there are a lot of great opportunities to be found among the fray. After ensuring that your alerting structure will help you unplug during the show, spend some time this week searching out what will benefit you and your organization the most. Don’t forget to pencil in some fun things to do while in beautiful Charlotte, N.C.

With nearly 200 sessions in two days, it’s hard to decide where to start, especially if this will be your first time attending the PASS Summit. I can assure you, going in wide eyed and hopeful that it will sort itself out is a big mistake. Two days will fly by and you will be left with little more than t-shirts and missed opportunities. To help you get started on the right foot, the good people at PASS put together some recommendations for you:

Mark and Ryan both offer some great suggestions throughout the summit. The titles speak for themselves with one geared more towards those with less experience and the other for those looking to reap every ounce of performance from their environment. However, don’t sell yourself short, recognize what you want to get out of the show and do a little research on other sessions. It only happens once a year and it’s worth a little extra effort now to make sure you come away with actionable insight that will make your life easier and your organization’s database more efficient. PASS even offers a schedule builder for those that want to leave nothing to chance.

While planning your schedule, remember that Dell t-shirts will be available at Dell presentations happening every 10-15 minutes at the Dell booth (#200).  Wear the t-shirt to the booth on Friday for a chance to win a Dell XPS10 tablet or a Dell XPSD12 Convertable laptop. If you are not able to attend the summit, be sure to follow @sqlpass for live updates on what's happening.
