Are you tired of doing the same Toad for Oracle tasks over and over? Do you want to automate your Toad for Oracle steps and have results waiting for you? We are enhancing Actions in Toad for Oracle v9.7 and our question for you is:
"Which Toad features would you like to see broken up into individual Toad actions?"
Not familiar with Actions?! Actions are a powerful way to control database tasks that you do over and over again. Features that are "actionable" allow you to save settings and run them at the click of a mouse. You can tweak settings before running, and you can string several actions together to automate an entire task.
Below are just a couple examples of what an action can do:
- Example 1: You want to save a dataset. Currently, you have to open Toad, create a connection, open the Editor, run a query, get the results, right-click in the grid, open the "Save As" window, specify your parameters, then click "OK." With an Action this entire sequence is automated for you, so you can simply open the action (File > Open Action) and click "Run." You can also schedule it and share it with others.
- Example 2: The Database Probe runs a series of queries in various categories then sends alert emails on conditions. The "actionable item" is: "Run a query and depending upon the results perform an operation." In this case, we've built an Action called "Actionable Query." The user then decides how they want to use that functionality. Maybe they want to send an email depending upon the results of a query. With Toad Actions, they can now do so.
