In other words, we - programmers and DBAs both - are very powerful. And as Spidey's uncle said, "With great power comes great responsibility."

This keynote presentation (delivered at the Kansas City OUG Fall Conference, October 26, 2004) explains just how and why our jobs and our work product are vastly more important than you might have been thinking. We will then explore the ways in which attendees can accept their responsibility and becomes the heroines and heroes of the 21st century.

Detailed Description

No doubt about it: PL/SQL is the best place to write SQL when you need to access the Oracle database.  No need for JDBC, ODBC or any of that other nonsense!  Just write your SQL and off you go...but wait, it gets even better!  Over the past several versions, Oracle has added SQL-centric functionality to PL/SQL to make it easier to write and faster to run SQL from within PL/SQL programs.

This one-hour presentation will make sure you know about all the things you can do to take maximum advantage of SQL inside PL/SQL, from BULK COLLECT and FORALL to table functions, with a visit into the world of record-level DML.

Prerequisites

You should have a working knowledge of PL/SQL and at least a year's worth of experience with the language.  All developers, from beginner to expert, will benefit from Steven's ideas and examples.

Oracle Version

Steven will demonstrate techniques and principles that apply to all versions of Oracle, but will also showcase new features in Oracle Database 10g that can dramatically improve the quality and performance of code that you write.
