I wrote a blog a few weeks back titled TOAD 10.5 Freeware Runs on Linux. So here comes the second and more important part for many – getting the official commercial product installed and working on Linux. And to me great and very happy surprise, the install simply worked. Look at the screen snapshot below. It shows that I now have both the TOAD freeware and commercial installed and working side by side on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux machine. Hurray!

If you adhered to the steps in the prior blog, then the only difference for the commercial version is to choose only the standard TOAD product during the Quest Installer execution. It will offer many other programs such as TOAD for Data Analysts, TOAD Data Modeler, SQL Optimizer, etc., just make sure to select only the one product – TOAD. That’s it – it will install and work. Remember that WINE emulates the Windows environment – so some things may run a little slower. But it works well enough to be my new primary TOAD installation J
PS – For those who wonder why they cannot choose all of the products, some require .Net – which then requires MONO for Linux in addition to WINE. I’ll try to get the other products working as well. So come back and read these blogs often.

Re: Toad for Oracle 10.5 Commercial Runs on Linux!!!
This is fantastic. I was trying to install Toad in Wine for years. It somehow works but it was very slow until I discover this holly grail command (from installing Toad Freeware 10.5)
winetricks mdac28 msxml3 msxml4 msxml6 vb6run vcrun6sp6 corefonts fontfix tahoma msls31 gecko riched20 riched30 richtx32 comctl32 comctl32.ocx
I'm happy Toad user on Ubuntu 10.04.
Now I can say goodbye to Windows :)
